Success for Website Dedicated to Anti-Bacterial Wipes
While specialization and division of labour are the founding principles of capitalism, even Adam Smith himself would have been shocked to see the extent of their current economic reach. As domain hosting the marketplace has obliterated the conventional limitations of shelf space, so it has simultaneously given rise to a galaxy of interesting and previously unheard of retail configurations and specialty products. What exactly, you might ask?
One young American, Luke Burgess, amazed at the variety of baby wipes, wet wipes, hand sanitizing wipes and other pre-moistened cloth-based cleaning devices adorning the shelves of his local pharmacy, used the web to take this kind of niche retail to a new level. Luke's website sells nothing but wet wipes: in a range of colors, scents, shapes and sizes so vast it that would've made your grandma blush.
Burgess has vowed that his site is the only one-stop shop for wipes made for cleaning things and people as diverse as phones, computers, cameras, toilet seats, counter tops, kitchen tables, baby bums and acne-ridden teenage foreheads. But how did a 27 year old become so obsessed with wet wipes?
In a peculiar mix of opportunism, common sense and tech savvy, Burgess merely "noticed that there were so many retailers focused on wet wipes", that the manufacture and retail of wet wipes is "a multimillion-dollar industry", and that "there were no sites exclusively dedicated to wet wipes." These were facts too painfully obvious to ignore for someone who has evidently spent the better part of their life with lubricated wipes on the brain.
With the increasing popularity of home delivery websites, it would seem that Burgess is onto a winner. He has had great success in sourcing his wipes in bulk from major manufacturers and getting great deals in the process. The site is free hosting thousands of different kinds of wipes, and traffic and sales have been reported as "better than expected" by owner Burgess thus far.
